1879 John Atherton confirms Mulligan's find, Encourages Jack and Newell to follow up, but their first trip 'not encouraging'
1880 20/4 William Jack, John Brown, Thomas Brandon and John Newell on the second trip are successful in finding payable tin. Later they apply for 60 acre mineral freehold of Great Northern Mine site
1880 8/5 first mining operations commence - gathering ore scattered on the surface, breaking it to
smaller size and bagging.
